John Duick

I began my academic journey by earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I developed a strong foundation in critical thinking and philosophical reasoning. Intrigued by the intricate workings of biological systems, I pursued a PhD in Plant Pathology with a specialization in molecular and biochemical interactions between hosts and pathogens, focusing particularly on the corn smut fungus Ustilago maydis. This research not only deepened my understanding of plant diseases at a molecular level but also equipped me with advanced skills in molecular biology and biochemistry.

Following the completion of my doctoral studies, I transitioned to Salisbury, where I dedicated six years to teaching Biology, Cell Biology, and Anatomy Physiology at Salisbury University. Engaging with students in the classroom and laboratory setting, I aimed to instill a passion for life sciences and nurture a deeper understanding of biological concepts among my students.

Before coming to Saint Francis de Sales, I spent sixteen rewarding years teaching high school physics and chemistry at The Salisbury School. Currently, I am delighted to serve as a middle school math teacher and information technology liaison. Beyond my teaching responsibilities, I indulge in creative pursuits such as designing web pages, producing videos and music, and exploring the fascinating realm of probability in game design. These activities not only complement my teaching but also provide me with avenues to continuously learn and innovate in both educational and creative domains.
